According to the Quran man is the vicegerent of Allah on earth. In this capacity he shares with Allah many of his attributes though in a limited sense. He serves the Divine purpose of creation resulting from His preference " to be known". And no other creation is fit for that knowledge or for the office of vicegerency. That is the "Trust (Amaana)" of which Allah speaks in the Noble Quran of having tested the fitness for, in all the creatures including the Heavens, the Earth and the Mountain:
Moulavi M.H. Babu Sahib

"We did indeed offer the trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains; but they refused to undertake it, being afraid thereof: but man undertook it; He was indeed unjust and foolish;" (Quran 33:72)

In line with this, Allah firmly said to the angels that man is to be created and to be His vicegerent on earth, Allah says:

"And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a representative (vicegerent) on the earth, they said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee ? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not." (Al- Baqarah, 2:30)
